Pack Monadnock Family Day Hike and Hawk Migration (Easier Trail)

Family Date: Sun September 8, 2019

The fall hawk migration is one of the great wonders of the natural world. Join us 12:30 pm Sunday to hike Pack Monadnock and enjoy one of New England's best spots to watch the migration - the Pack Monadnock
Raptor Observatory on the summit of Pack Monadnock in Miller State Park in Peterborough, NH (

Every autumn thousands of raptors pass overhead on their way to southern wintering grounds - a sight to be seen.

We will hike the "easier" Marion Davis Trail up and back (2.8 miles round trip) at a moderate pace.. The route is a total of ~ 1000 ft of elevation gain to Mt. Pack Monadnock summit (2,288 ft.).

On the summit we will meet up with AMC Families from Worcester, Berkshire, and Connecticut chapters who will take alternate trails up the mountain (see trail map for a mid- afternoon picnic (please bring something to share) and to see the hawks. There will be a naturalist as well to provide information on the hawk migration! We will also have time to explore the summit. The views of Mt. Monadnock and the valley are great and there is a fire tower to climb as well! For questions contact Jeanne Blauner,, 978-202-5606. Please be aware Jeanne is leading an AMC rip to Fiji and Tonga returning September 1 so you might not hear back immediately.
